Youth Committee

June 14, 2010

 

Members present: Alex Cook, Bryce Ufken, Allyn Anderson, Margie Pigg, Rhonda Justice, Dawn Richards, Pastor Greg, Peg McAllister, Todd & Kim Lang, Jill Hansen and Stacy Hoffman.

 

1.                  Minutes of May meeting were read and approved.

 

2.                  Graduation reception went well - for 23 graduates  - 3 trays of rolls would work better - use only 5 gallons of juice.  Peg will send thank-yous to Joanne Gabriel and Mary Roder.  Thanks, Peg, for making all the cards.

 

3.         Gospel Mission - several options offered from Pastor Greg to serve.  Wednesday, July 14th, noon meal was decided upon.  Greg will put in bulletin, Kim will put in newsletter, Dawn, Peg, Allyn & Dan could drive.

 

4.         Margie said it took two trips to deliver the "Soles for Souls".  Thanks Margie - she said they've shipped out over 200,000 pairs from Sheldon.

 

5.         Summer K-8 Bus Trip:  We still have seats open.  Peg & Stacy will be in charge of money, ice water and organizing the day.

 

6.         "Esprit de Corps", a Youth Choir from Lincoln is coming on July 6th.  We are serving 85 people total, at 5:00.  Rhonda will have tear strips ready by next Sunday.  Julie will make beans.  All youth committee members please help and be here by 4:00 if you can.  Margie will donate cups, plates and napkins.

 

7.         We are going to try to schedule a bonfire at 8:00 PM on  August 8 for high school kids.

 

8.         Future Events: Jr. High gatherings: 5th & 6th of November, Senior High, 6th & 7th of November at Twin Lakes.  Okoboji - Re-Charge in October & November.

 

9.         Sonshine - Willmar, MN, July 14-17th - Christian Music Festival.

May 3, 2010

 

Members present: Margi Pigg, Kim & Todd Lang, Rhonda Justice, Peg McAllister, Allyn Anderson, Julie Albert and Pastor Greg.

 

1.                  Graduate Reception - Pillows are finished.  Dawn will order rolls (2 trays from Timmy's, Peg will get the juice.  Peg will get some balloons for the head table.  Decorations are downstairs.  We will decorate before the reception (8:30).  Everyone, come help.

2.                  Summer Servant Event - There are no games on the two weekends.  Maybe too late to get this scheduled.  Next year get started at this sooner. 

 

3.         Activity for Older Kids - Talk to Sherri Permeswaran about hosting a bonfire event in August.  Youth Committee would provide food.  In June, do tubing event at Pipe Dream in Hinton.  Youth Committee could pay part of entry fee.

 

4.         Soles for Souls - People are bringing in shoes.  Margie will deliver shoes to Sheldon.

 

5.         Summer Bus Trip (47 people).  Scheduled for June 21st, leave at 9:45, return at 4:30.  Sign-up, cost $10 per student/adult.  Deadline to sign up is June 6th.

 

6.         A Youth Choir from Lincoln will be here Tuesday, July 6 at 7:00.  The Youth Committee is asked to be in charge of the meal at 5:00.  85 will be coming.  Worship Committee will do advertising.  Rhonda will make tear strips for the congregation for hot dogs, buns, pan of bars, 2 dozen cookies, chips, lemonade.  Tear strips up by June 19th.

 

7.         Pastor Greg read a letter from the Gospel Mission.  Can we get our youth to help there - serve food.  They also need food.  He will get more information.  He also talked about 2 mission trip opportunities this summer, both to New Orleans.  Information has been in the bulletin.

April 10, 2010

 

Members present: Pastor Greg, Allyn Anderson, Rhonda Justice, Kim Lang, Julie Albert, Peg McAllister, Margie Pigg, Stacy Hoffman, Alex Cook

 

1.                  Reviewed minutes of March meeting - approved

 

2.                  Easter Breakfast - Kim gave a report on Easter breakfast.  We served around 118 people.  Our offering was around $400.  We didn't have a lot of kids that helped, but the breakfast went well and didn't have much food left over.  The Easter egg hunt had about 20 kids.  The eggs were filled with religious items purchased from Oriental Trading.

 

3.         Synod Assembly - There is no interest from our youth.

 

4.         Summer servant event - There is no one that is able to attend.  We discussed the possibility of going up for one day and having the kids do a servant activity at a soup kitchen and then going to a Twins baseball game.  Pastor Greg will do some checking on what our kids could do and which dates are open for home games.  This would be open to youth in grades 8-12.

 

5.         Soles for Souls - Pastor Greg discussed the need for used shoes in Third World countries.  We decided to collect shoes the first two weekends in May with the last collection being May 9th at 12:00 p.m.  Peg will get information to Karen for the May newsletter and the church bulletin.  Allyn will do a temple talk at the Sunday night service on April 25th.  Peg will do the other three services that weekend.  She will also get barrels for collection of the shoes.

 

6.         Christmas in October - We confirmed the 23rd of October for doing a food stand at the Convention Center.

 

7.         Jolt 2010 - No members from St. John's attended this event.

 

8.                  Graduation Reception - Will be held on Sunday, May 23.  Mary Roder and Joanne Gabriel are making the pillows and Peg will make cards.  Dawn will order the rolls and Peg will get the juice.  All members will need to help serve.

 

9.                  Summer Bus Trip - Cost of the 47-passenger bus is $550.  We will book it for June 21st.  We have money in our budget to help cover the cost and Dan and Julie pay the bus deposit of $100. (Thank you Dan and Julie!!!!)  We will ask for a $10 payment from each person when they register.

 

10.       Youth Choir from Lincoln - The worship committee would like us to provide food when the choir comes on July 6th. We will ask the congregation to help provide food.  Pastor Greg would like to see our youth get involved with this event.

 

11.              Intergenerational Event - Kay has asked for our help in setting up, serving, and cleaning up at this last event.  It will be April 25th and will be about Pentecost.

 

12.       Bake Sale - We decided not to have a bake sale this spring, but to instead have one in the fall.

 

13.       Next Meeting - Monday, May 3rd at 5:30 p.m.
