BENEVOLENCE GIVING:  2011 Benevolence giving totaled more than $3,000 more than 2010.

ADOPT A FAMILY: Christian Needs Center reported some problems with the adoption of members of families in which all the gifts requested were not purchased and delivered.  They estimated approximately $800 was needed to fulfill the requests of the families.  St. John's was unable to provide additional funding.  All the monies collected for the program was spent on purchases for the families who had not been adopted.  Approximately $60 was spent on each person. Prior to Christmas next year the Christian Needs Center will conduct an information meeting for churches participating in the Adopt a Family Program to clarify the rules and responsibilities.  The committee will consider adopting fewer families in order to meet our obligations.

LUTHERAN MIDEAST DEVELOPMENT: Nathan reminded us to keep them in our prayers.  They continue to have safety issues due to the after-shocks of the earthquake.

MEALS ON WHEELS: Volunteers are still needed to deliver Meals on Wheels. Requests have been made at the church services, in the bulletin and the newsletter.  Lynn suggested we prepare instructions for coordinators and volunteers prior to the next month St. John's is responsible for delivery.

MEALS ON WHEELS

The Women of the ELCA will not be able to continue to coordinate the Meals on Wheels Program.  St. John's is responsible for meal delivery for the month of January.  The Outreach Committee is the logical committee to assume this responsibility. The duty entails enlisting help to deliver the meals, contacting the workers to ensure they will be there for delivery and personally supervising the pickups each day.  Pastor Gary has discussed the project with Marcia who may have volunteers for the project. If no volunteers are available the Outreach Committee members may have to sign up for some of these duties for January.

DAMASCUS ROAD PRISON MINISTRY: Mark reported on the visit to the Rockwell City Prison Congregation.  The committee discussed the future possibility of fostering an inmate when released from prison.  Pastor Gary explained that a congregation has to meet certain requirements.

CHRISTIAN NEED CENTER:  The Christian Needs Center has a great need for canned food items.  $100 from the Local Hunger Concerns budget item will be sent as a check to the Christian Needs Center for these items.
