ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH Library Committee January 10, 2012

Next meeting: February 14, 2012 Next work days: January 24, January 31, and February 7, 2012, at 9:00 a.m.
Library weekend will be held January 21 and 22nd. Loni will check with Chris at Family Christian Book Store to see if we can start pulling books early (9:00 am) before the store opens. We'll meet at church at 8:25 a.m. on Saturday morning. Loni will set up and stay for Saturday night service. Deb, Chris and Donna will be ready for the early service. Jan will come when she is available.
We will be transitioning some of the higher-level teen books to the Adult Fiction shelves. We will also reorganize the Juvenile and Pre-Teen section. We would like to get "YOUNG ADULT" stickers and put these on the Adult Fiction shelves as well. Our hope is that by doing so, these books will be read more and it will also gain us a little shelves space. We will be "reading" the Children's Books section to see if we can get them all into one book case. We will then move the DVD's to the empty bookcase. Loni will see if she can find the sticker.
Chris will send a Thank you note to WELCA for their generous donation.
Sports Spectrum and Significant Living magazines will be due soon. SS is due in the spring and SL will be due June/July.
We need a new case for the Bethlehem Revisited DVD. The one we have is broken. Chris will check at Wal-Mart or with Kent Jones.

CORRECTION TO NOVEMBER 8, 2011, MINUTES: It was recorded "We ordered approximately 126 new books and DVDs." The correct number is 69.
The book truck we ordered for Good Samaritan has arrived. It will be delivered as soon as a "donated by" label is purchased. Loni will pick that up.
Library Weekend will be held January 21-22, 2012. We will contact Family Christian a few weeks before to let them know we will be coming.
We briefly discussed young readers and how we can encourage them to use the library. This topic was tabled and will be discussed after the first of the year.
We received a $100.00 donation from Women of the ELCA. We are so grateful for the continued support we receive from St. John's WELCA.

Library blinds have been installed. They look great! The remaining hardware and cords from the previous drapes still needs to be removed. The cords in particular present a choking hazard to young children.
Loni passed on the Thank you from the Methodist Church circle ladies that met in our library. They enjoyed Loni's presentation about our library. Some even checked out books.
New media materials have arrived. We ordered approximately 126 new books and DVDs. We will process them and get them on the new shelves. 3 of the new books are children duo-language (English/Spanish). One is a Bible and 2 are Christmas books. We will get more of the duo-language books for our Library Weekend table. Large Print pre-orders will be coming in as they become available. The total cost of this purchase is $637.62 ($89.93 will come from the Large Print Budget, $100.00 is the WELCA donation and the balance of $454.69 will come from the general Media Fund.)
Loni reported that Good Samaritan's plans for a library has changed. Instead of one library, the would like to have book trucks, like the one we purchased for them a few years back, for each of the three neighborhoods they have established. Kay spoke with Amy Harnock. They would be very grateful if we could donate two more book trucks. We will purchase one with our remaining funds this year and one next year. The model we purchased last time was a "Mustang, single sided, three shelf book truck (MB91-0050). We will add a new line item to next years budget to fund this purchase. The new line will be "Good Samaritan Ministry" $300.00.
Library Weekend 2012 will be held January 21-22. Library committee will meet at church on Saturday the 21st at 9:30 am to travel to Sioux City to select books for the sale. Loni will contact Chris at Family Christian to let him know when we will be coming.

We will only meet on November 1st if the Large Print and series books form our CBD order arrive. Loni will let us know via email if the books do arrive. We have approximately 8 new large print by authors Phillips, Higgs, Lewis, Petersen, and Snelling. Some will be coming out in March. We pre-ordered those.
We will purchase a few duo-language children books for our table at the library weekend event. We will discuss the date for this event at our November meeting.
New blinds have been ordered for the library windows. Window Fashions by Susie Ruhland will order the blinds and install the new ones for a price of approximately $960.00. They should be in by the end of this month. Susie will send the bill to Kim. Chris sent a Thank you note to the Labahn family for providing the rest of the funds needed for this purchase.
