Inreach Team Minutes St. John's Lutheran Church January 25, 2012
Present: Becky Klohs, Pastor Greg, Kathy Stelzer, Chris Knapp, Amy Schmidt, & Kristy Pecks
This meeting was the "kickoff" of our new Inreach Team for 2012. The Operating Manual guidelines were shared as well as the budget and proposed 2012 goals (developed by Kristy and Becky last year).

Proposed Goals for 2012:
Chris Knapp shared a concern about St. John's not helping enough for those members in need in our congregation. The welfare fund was discussed and how it was used. Information was shared on how the Christian Needs Center works and other charitable organizations around LeMars.
We also discussed other ways to provide help to others such as "neighbor in need", providing rides, delivering meals, or the Pastors providing names to the Circles of individuals that could use some assistance. It was discussed that the Cottage Meetings may result in better understanding of those in need, due to expected illness, car problems, or short-term financial issues. Our brainstorming resulted in some ideas for possible implementation in the future:
1. Neighbor in Need (neighbors helping neighbors) 2. Better publication of CNC and who can use it and how it works 3. use of Cottage Meetings to communicate those in need 4. use of Cottage Meetings to "reach out", beginning with those not attending 5. helping the current members to know who the members are 6. providing mentors/sponsors for new members, those mourning the loss of a loved one, parents of children recently baptized, or members not regularly attending church.
Chris also shared a desire to construct a Prayer Chapel, smaller than the Sanctuary but large enough to conduct a Worship service/ funeral. This Chapel would be used when a small attendance is expected. She also would like a floor to ceiling chalkboard where individuals could share prayer concerns. This suggestion would need to go to the Property Committee and the Council for approval and depending on cost, the congregation.
The team agreed to meet on 2nd Tuesday of month at 4:30 pm. Our next meeting will be on February 14th and we will limit the meeting to one hour, due to being Valentine's Day. Our next meeting will focus on what our priorities will be for 2012 and how to accomplish them. Also, we will recruit approximately 4-5 additional members.

TERM OF OFFICE: One-half of the membership shall be appointed each year for a 2 year term

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Plan, coordinate the Social Ministry of St. John's Lutheran Church
SPECIFIC DUTES: 1. Identify the social opportunities within the congregation to promote fellowship among members. 2. Coordinate integration of prospective members into congregation through recruitment, education and integration into active members. 3. Provide social opportunities for individual members to experience spiritual renewal through active participation in St. John's congregation.

PRESENT: Kristy Pecks and Becky Klohs
1. Kristy and Becky have been meeting weekly to work on activities for "Inreach" planning a. Consideration given to renaming our committee. Suggestion for name is "LIFT", Living In Faith Together. Need to be approved by the Pastors.
2. 2. End of summer picnic a. Scheduled for September 18th from 4-8. b. Picnic will begin with yard games and a "get to know each other" activity for all ages. c. Potluck will be held at 6 o'clock d. Program will start around 7 o'clock with talks about the "new" inreach committee, planning of quarterly events, and what is going on in Church council. e. Have portable bulletin board with signup sheets. f. Recruiting for help is in progress and going very well. g. During dinner, we will have roundtable questions pertaining to Church
3. Kristy and Becky met with Laurel from Olan Mills in regards to the new directory. a. Kristy will give temple talk and flyer will be distributed to congregation. b. Signups will begin on August 28 and continue thru time to take pictures - every Sunday. c. Will have time and talent forms to be completed while waiting for pictures. d. Directory will be available in January 2012. e. Need to determine how we will get pictures taken at nursing homes.

Discussion continued about new members to this committee. We are in the process of forming the committee. We would like six members on this committee. Amy Schmidt has agreed to be on this committee. Other contacts have been made but we do not have answers from them.
Kristy and I have set dates for the new directory pictures. We will move forward with this event. Olan Mills gave us some material to start this process.
Some new brainstorming ideas: Change our name to lift committee "Cafe" Have a general meeting place for morning coffee Create process for new members - To have the church members get to know them. Have a question of the week - Question would be in bulletin and would encourage members to discuss this question. Reintroduce the power point at the beginning of church. Social events for the congregation Outdoor concert at our church A congregational event to kickoff the directory.

Kristy and I met to review dates for the new church directory. I have been in contact with Laurel, from Olan Mills, and we have reviewed the itinerary for the directory. First we need to set a date. The dates we have chosen will be September 30th and October 1st, October 4th through October 8th and October 10th through October 15th. We will need to put information in the bulletin and Reflections. Later on we will have temple talks. We will start to work on our committee. This will need the approval of the Church Council.
We will start working on our committee. We will need to target all age groups. This will be an active committee trying to build relationships throughout the church.
