FORWARD PLANNING ACTION TEAM UPDATE #4
Survey Results Information #2 One area we did not score very well in, as a matter of fact it was our lowest mark, was an area called Empowering Leadership. This is an area of the church dynamic which deals with not only getting people to take the leadership roles, but also dealing with helping the leaders of the congregation to be better leaders and helping the congregation to recognize its leaders. At the same time this area also deals with thanking those of the congregation who have helped the mission and ministry of the congregation.
As it was, we may have good leaders in our congregation and we may have numerous individuals in our congregation who have leadership skills and qualities, but this has shown that either we do not use these leaders in the best of ways or people are not taking the cue to come forward and offer their leadership in areas of need.
So what are some of the things we need to do? We need to first recognize that we are all gifted by God for certain tasks within both his kingdom and right here in the congregation. Second, we need to be willing to help each other. The church council as well as many of the committees and action teams will be asked to not only recognize leaders among themselves, but also to search out further leaders from the congregation. We must then be willing to train and continue to educate the leadership to be even better leaders. Our synod and national church have a number of programs to do just this. We must also regularly lift up the work of the leaders of the church and thank them for their work among us.
All of this takes both time but it also takes participation. We need everyone in the congregation to be willing to step forward and offer what they have to the mission and ministry of God in this place. No longer can we simply hope someone else will step forward, we have to be willing. We must not belittle our talents and abilities, but bring them forward. Look then for this to be one of the main topics of the congregation in the months to come.
